The first recorded signs of a lottery are keno slips from the Chinese Han Dynasty between 205 and 187 BC. These lotteries are believed to have helped to finance major government projects like the Great Wall of China. From the Chinese “The Book of Songs” (2nd millennium BC.) comes a reference to a game of chance as “the drawing of wood”, which in context appears to describe the drawing of lots. Lotteries in colonial America played a significant part in the financing of both private and public ventures. It has been recorded that more than 200 lotteries were sanctioned between 1744 and 1776, and played a major role in financing roads, libraries, churches, colleges, canals, bridges, etc. In the 1740s, the foundation of Princeton and Columbia Universities was financed by lotteries, as was the University of Pennsylvania by the Academy Lottery in 1755. Benjamin Franklin organized a lottery to raise money to purchase cannon for the defense of Philadelphia. Lottery todayThe visa lottery was established by the Immigration Act of 1990 in an attempt to bring individuals to the U.S. from countries that had been sending few immigrants to the United States in the past. Currently, approximately 50,000 foreign nationals per year are awarded visas based on pure luck to come and live permanently in the United States under the visa lottery program. As Wikipedia , on 2019 there were 22 Millions Applicants, from all over the world, 2 millions more the US Florida State population or 3 millions less than the total population of Australia calculated in 25 millions. Thank you to Hotter Shoes for providing this beautiful boot for review. Juggling life as an entrepreneur, wife and mom can be hectic. As I get older, I’m definitely leaning towards fashion that is both high-quality and versatile. I want to look put together with as little effort as possible and these Hotter Sandringham boots do just the trick! The first thing I noticed when I pulled them out of the box was the color (called dark tan) – the two tone brown suede is rich and adds a sense of coziness of the boot. I LOVE the dark brown strap that wraps around the ankle, it adds just enough pop to make this more than just a typical brown boot. I automatically paired the boot with black leggings for contrast and they looked fabulous. My favorite part of the boot is the fit around my calf. I have a skinny lower leg, however I have a pretty muscular calf. The calf circumference (around 16.5″ for size 10 boot) of the Hotter Sandringham fits perfectly thanks to the stretch inserts in the back of the boot. The cleated rubber outsole has a great grip for the icy Chicago sidewalks as well as giving just the right amount of cush. I’m very hard on my shoes, but I can tell that these boots will be a staple in my closet for a long time to come. I’d recommend the Hotter Sandringham for women with medium to wide feet with wider calves. This is not a boot for narrow feet and slim calves. The Hotter Sandringham tall boot runs true to size and is available in four gorgeous shades of suede nubuck, sizes 5-11, regular width (for medium to slightly wide feet) and extra wide width (for wide to extra wide feet) for $119 (currently marked down from $199) from Hotter.com. The post Hotter Sandringham Boot Review: Great Fit for Wider Calves! appeared first on TepuyMagazine. via TepuyMagazine https://ift.tt/38ZdAfK This boot, by Japanese bespoke shoemaker TYE Shoemaker, is easily the most unique and intriguing boot that I have ever seen in my life, that presses the boundaries of bold yet not going overboard becoming ridiculous. Everything about it is jaw-dropping. The quality is 2nd to none. The color is the best purple I have ever seen. The pattern is phenomenal. The idea is perfect. The pairing of braided suede on a double monk boot: genius. Everything about it screams amazing to me. And prior to this, truth be told, I wouldn’t have thought about wearing purple footwear. But I would rock this 6 ways from Sunday! And I have said it before and I will say it again. Thats what I lobe about TYE shoemaker. They make stuff that would otherwise be crazy, become amazingly phenomenal! Let’s not forget to praise the customer for this one too as I am sure he had some say in making this greay piece! Privacy & Cookies Policy The post New Shoes on The Marketplace – Lobb, Corthay, Santoni and More! appeared first on TepuyMagazine. via TepuyMagazine https://ift.tt/2SgJbns In light of the success of our first run of the Patina Project shoes at J.FitzPatrick Footwear, in association with American Patina ( at IG @american__patina), we are running the offering again. This time we are only offering just the Tony II and Whittier models to be given a patina to. Each model has 4 set patinas to choose from, as you can see. However, as this is a Pre-Order, we have decided to up the ante by also allowing width options for those of you with narrow and/or wide feet. Therefore, we are offering B/C, D and EE widths on all four models. So when making your purchase, please find the model and color that you want, BUT THEN ALSO select the patina you want (which are shown in the 4 models, all having one of the 4 choices) and then your size/width (these are in US sizing, UK will be one different i.e. US10 would be UK9). For UK widths: Narrow = UK D, Medium = UK E, Wide = UK F Now, being a Pre-Order offer we have to place the order for what is purchased at the end of the period of the offering. As this is a patina project, we have to order everything in natural crust calf to then be patina’d by Chris (American Patina) once he receives the shoes. To make the shoes, it takes up to 4 months and Chris takes another 1-2 weeks to create the patina’s. The Price includes the cost of the shoe, plus the price of the Patina. The Patina is usually $150 so this is a saving of $120 per shoe We hope that you enjoy this offer and of course, for any questions you might have please email [email protected] The Patina Project Pre Order Sale will end January 12th, 2020 Happy Shopping! https://ift.tt/1sSjRhJ – The Patina Project The post American Patina x J.FitzPatrick Offering appeared first on TepuyMagazine. via TepuyMagazine https://ift.tt/34MFQyK Saucony Guide 13 IntroThe saying “out with the old, in with the new” fits perfectly for the new Saucony Guide 13. Saucony is a company that listens to feedback and makes changes, even big changes. The Saucony Guide 13 is one of the first in line to receive an almost complete reconstruction, with new materials and technologies. The Guide 13 is the thirtieth edition of the shoe. The last two editions were known as ISO and ISO 2 since Saucony used the ISOFit upper on them, but have since changed the design of the upper. It is the mid stability offering from Saucony and falls between the Liberty and Omni. The guides retail for $120, which puts them in competition with Asics GT-2000, Nike Zoom Structures and the New Balance 860. Saucony Guide 13 First ImpressionsWhen I opened the box for the first time I immediately thought it was a different shoe than the Guides. From top to bottom the shoe looked different from the previous edition. The fade from black and gray in the heel to the blue was smooth. The accents of orange in the laces, logos, and bottoms of the shoe add perfect pop in appeal. It looks fast and appeals to the eye. The sole felt firmer than expected when I slipped them on for the first time. The inside of the shoe was plush with more cushioning around the heel collar and throughout the upper than previous editions, My first run out of the box was a relaxed 6 miles outside. It was a different ride than the Guide ISO 2. The sole unit was lighter yet responsive along with a more secure fitting upper. The new TPU guidance frame was noticeable on the run and the cushioning around the upper was slightly overbearing. On the other hand, the sole unit provided that springy natural ride I have come to expect from a Saucony offering. Saucony Guide 13 Sole UnitSaucony completely reconstructed the sole unit with new technology and materials. Gone is the popular EVERUN EVA foam material. Instead, they have implemented a new TPU/EVA blended foam cushioning, called PWRRUN. In my experience, PWRRUN is a lighter and more responsive material. If you are a stability runner you have probably noticed in the last few years running brands have changed their stability systems. Brooks expanded their guiderails, Hoka has developed the J Frame, while Saucony has historically stayed with the traditional dual-density medial post until now. Gone is the dual-density medial post and in comes a TPU guidance frame. It serves the purpose of a medial post in providing you with the stability you need. The TPU guidance frame is an L shaped piece of thermoplastic polyurethane that sits between the heel and arch on the medial side of the foot. It wraps around to the bottom of the foot. This was developed to provide the shoe with more structure and support along with durability. The TPU guidance frame will be used in Saucony’s other stability offerings in the future. It was noticeable on my first 2 runs which meant there will be an adjustment period for longtime Guide runners. The outsole of the Saucony Guide 13 has some updates as well. They have decided to implement their crystal rubber as opposed to carbon rubber for the outsole of the Guide 13s. The crystal rubber is thinner without losing any durability. The same tri flex design is still prominent in the outsole. The outsole handled the different weather conditions I took them out on while having enough flexibility. Saucony Guide 13 Upper UnitAlong with the sole unit, the upper part of the Guide 13 has undergone some major updates. The ISOFit technology was divisive among the Saucony faithful so much so Saucony decided to move on without it. Some runners couldn’t seem to get a good fit no matter how many times they tied their shoes, while others felt like it was a dream fit. I fell into the latter camp, so I was skeptical going into this review of the Guide 13s without the ISOFit. Although the ISOFit is gone, Saucony kept all the effective parts around it. The ISOFit lacing components caused many runners problems, so they were eliminated. The booty-like upper, which I have come to expect from Saucony, is still there, both adaptable and flexible. This was aided by the updated engineered jacquard mesh they use for the upper, which is more durable than previous versions. However, a downside I noticed was a lack of breathability in the upper. The tailored fit I have felt in both the last versions of Omni and Hurricane continues in the Guide 13. This tailored fit starts in the heel and continues throughout the length of the shoe. Compared with the Guide ISO 2, the Guide 13 is a better built durable upper. The toe cap is on the inside of the shoe providing more structure in the forefoot area of the upper. Saucony employs FORMFIT technology for the footbed of their upper of the Guide 13. While the FORMFIT technology is not new for Saucony, it is a true strength of the upper. It is a three layer cushioning system that cradles your feet with a secure fit. The secure fit adds to the stability of the shoe because it helps lock your feet in place. The new upper and the FORMFIT complement each other in providing a secure and adaptable fit while you run. Saucony Guide 13 Conclusion“Sometimes when you fall in love with a shoe you get disappointed with the next edition because of all the major ‘upgrades’. However, this is not the case with Saucony”, said in my review for the Saucony Guide Iso 2 last year. This sentiment would be more fitting for the The Saucony Guide 13. Last year I gave the Guide Iso 2 a perfect 5 star review stating “The Saucony Guide Iso 2 is an exceptional mid cushioned stability daily trainer, fit for any type of run.” While this is still true, the Guide 13 is unequivalently a better overall trainer. From the moment you slip them on you notice a slimmer more tailored fit from heel to toe in the Guide 13. This may bother some runners with wider feet, but for me, it provided an ideal fit. The newly reconstructed sole unit made with PWRRUN foam was lighter and more responsive than EVERUN cushioning. At the same time, the sole unit was also bouncier. The new TPU guidance frame resulted in added stability. This combined with the cushioning made for an effortless transition from heel/midfoot to toe off. It took a couple of runs to get used to the feel of the new sole unit particularly the TPU guidance frame but once you do, it makes every run smooth and comfortable. The upper went through reconstruction as well. Gone is the divisive ISOFit in favor of an upper with new engineered mesh and a FORMFIT footbed. The upper provided me with a secure bootie-like fit without being constricting. Both the new upper and sole unit worked in symphony with one another in the Guide 13 to provide my feet with the best run from start to finish. There was one small drawback with the Saucony Guide 13, breathability. Although the double Jacquard mesh upper was breathable, I would have appreciated more breathability. In my opinion, Saucony is one of the best brands out there for stability trainers. The Guide 13 continues that tradition of offering some of the best Saucony has to offer. The monumental changes made were successful turning a great shoe into one of the best. This justifies the 120 dollar price tag. Overall, the Saucony Guide 13 is one of the best moderate stability trainers out there. It is built to last and for any type of workout you would take it on. If you are looking for a go to trainer for all your runs and won’t break the bank, look no further than the Saucony Guide 13.

As the year comes to a close it’s good to take a look back at the baby name winners from 2019 — and the losers, too. Sure, there were a few trends that took baby name charts by storm: “X” names, like Brixley or Braxton have continued to dominate, as have ad- names, like Addisyn or Adley. Pop culture trends like names taken from Stars Wars or Game of Thrones were also huge for parents looking towards the big and small screen for inspiration. Some of these names really worked, while others — not so much. So what separated a baby name champion from a complete flop? It all comes down to connotation. Some names got a totally bad reputation due to their sound or the things they represent to us or reminded us of. And not all of the trends have resulted in winning monikers. Which is why we decided to compile a list of the absolute worst baby names that hit 2019 like a ton of bricks. Names that evoke a deep, stomach-churning cringe. Not to get too scientific, but we based our list on a few different categories. There were the names that just sounded bad — Kingslayer comes to mind. And some trendy names have become a little bit tiresome — sorry, but we’ve had enough of Addyson. But by far the names that make us roll our eyes the most are ones that have been ruined by pop culture or celebrities. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin the bunch (lookin’ at you Tristan Thompson). We also looked to things that happened in movies, television, or major national scandals which will most likely change the essence of a name forever (think, Lori Laughlin). Take a look at our list and see if there are any rated b (for bad) names we forgot! The post 20 of The Worst Names of 2019 appeared first on TepuyMagazine. via TepuyMagazine https://ift.tt/2EIpnkM Estos días parecen ser frenéticos con mil preparativos.
